Disney Junior (Canadian French TV channel)
- For the English version of Disney Junior in Canada, see Disney Junior (Canadian English TV channel).
Disney Junior is a Canadian French language Category B specialty channel owned by Astral Media. Disney Junior is a commercial-free channel with entertainment and learning-based programming targeted toward preschoolers.[1]
The channel was originally licensed in 2006 as Vrak Junior, a sister channel to Astral's Vrak.TV, though, aimed at younger viewers than Vrak.TV.[2] It was launched on July 5, 2010 as Playhouse Disney Télé. The channel was rebranded as Disney Junior on May 6, 2011, while focusing on the same type of programming, programs for preschoolers.[3]
An English language version of Disney Junior was launched in Canada by Astral on November 30, 2007 (then known as Playhouse Disney Channel) as a multiplex channel of Family. It was rebranded Disney Junior on the same day as the French-language channel.
